As part of First Thursday, Unusual View, a new arts community group, launched its oddities with a special exhibition at the OH Gallery, Oxford House, Bethnal Green, London.  Set up by former artist and fashion photographer, Amanda McDonald, the group forges links between artists with employers in the arts through the provision of diverse exhibition platforms.

The group exhibition brings together a range of up-and-coming artists within the Unusual View umbrella, showing a diverse range of mediums including sculptors, mask makers, painters and photographers.

Artist and illustrator, Lord Bunn launched his first ever solo exhibition last night at The Old Sweet Shop.  The exhibition comprises of two brand new screen prints, over 30 mini canvasses, and ‘other stuff’.  ‘Girls’ will run until the end of March 2010.

Hyper Island Comes to Yorkshire

Hyper Island

Last week saw the launch of Hyper Island coming to Yorkshire.  Along with Inspiral, we helped out with the events in Leeds at the Round Foundry and in Sheffield at Electric Works.

Hyper Island is seen as the ‘Oxbridge of digital media training’ and will be running the Accidental Leaders and Managers Programmes in Leeds and Sheffield in spring 2010.  For more information, see here.

Yesterday saw the first ‘open consultation’ for Sheffield’s bid to become the first UK City of Culture in 2013 at The Millennium Galleries (which was hosted by Tom Fleming Creative Consultancy).  We were asked to invite a few of the key people working in the city’s creative/cultural industries along.

The event itself showed there was a good mix of people from various backgrounds who support Sheffield’s bid.  There is still a lot of work to do, but the shortlist should be announced early December…

Eitherway, win or lose, we should use this opportunity to come together, show off what the city has to offer and build on the momentum…
